Pekanbaru, Riau Province - The 80th-anniversary celebration for the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Riau Police was a vivid fusion of sport, art, and advocacy. The cornerstone event, the "Brimob Run 8K," took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, transforming the provincial capital into an open-air spectacle of imagination and communal spirit. With a participant count reaching into the thousands, the run brilliantly achieved its dual aim: to honor the Brimob's legacy and to foster a direct, positive connection with the community through a shared, joyful experience.

Creativity was the official dress code for the day. Departing from typical races, organizers specifically invited participants to form eight-person teams and showcase unique, thematic costumes. The streets were adorned with a magnificent array of outfits, including traditional Riau clothing with tanjak headgear, creative get-ups made from recycled waste, and full-bodied costumes depicting animals like elephants and popular cartoon characters such as Shaun the Sheep. This visual feast underscored the event's celebratory and inclusive atmosphere.

The theme "Brimob Presisi untuk Lestari" provided a meaningful backbone to the festivities. Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan explicitly linked the run to urgent local environmental issues. He addressed the crowd, emphasizing a persuasive and humane approach to conserving the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN), a critical elephant habitat facing threats. The run, therefore, became a moving petition for wildlife and ecosystem protection, giving physical form to a call for environmental justice.

The event's structure was thoughtfully designed to maximize engagement. The 8-kilometer route through central Pekanbaru was carefully planned to start and end at the police headquarters (Mapolda Riau), symbolizing a journey taken together with the community. Beyond the run itself, competitions for the best costume and most creative pre-event video, offering an 8-million Rupiah prize, generated significant buzz and extended the celebration into the digital realm.

A particularly commendable aspect of the day was its demonstrated inclusivity. The organizers made concerted efforts to welcome persons with disabilities, who formed their own teams and participated with evident enthusiasm. Their involvement sent a powerful message that the community celebration was intended for all citizens, breaking down barriers and showcasing the Brimob's role in serving every segment of society.

This public run was anchored in the deeper institutional history of the Brimob corps. In earlier anniversary ceremonies, Police Chief Heryawan had honored the unit's tradition, speaking of an unwavering "DNA of loyalty" passed down through generations. He charged personnel to embody the spirit of "Brimob Presisi untuk Masyarakat" by being grounded, helpful, and directly engaged with the people's needs. The run was a practical manifestation of this very directive.

The Brimob Run 8K stands as a case study in innovative public relations and community outreach for a security institution. By creating an event where the police were participants and facilitators rather than just regulators, the Riau Brimob successfully humanized its image. The sight of senior officers in superhero jerseys running alongside civilians in elephant costumes created lasting, positive impressions that transcend traditional law enforcement interactions.

In conclusion, the anniversary run was a multifaceted success. It celebrated a historic milestone with energy and originality, delivered a potent message about environmental stewardship, and, most importantly, wove stronger social bonds between the police and the populace. The colorful spectacle in Pekanbaru will be remembered not just as a birthday party for the Brimob, but as a landmark event of community unity and shared purpose in Riau.
